Glamping In The Masai Mara
GLAMPING DEFINED
What Is Glamping?
Glamping, short for “glamorous camping”, lets you immerse yourself in nature without sacrificing comfort. Instead of roughing it in a basic tent on the ground, you’ll stay in a classic safari-style tent.
Each spacious tent is placed on a solid foundation and stocked with all the comforts you’d expect in a hotel room. Think double beds with premium mattresses, linens, and towels, as well as modern bathrooms with flush toilets, sinks, tiled showers, and plenty of hot water.
For your convenience, in the evening, each tent also features lighting, electrical outlets, and WiFi that’s powered by our sustainable solar panels. Unlike other camps, the electricity is available 24/7 and is not turned off at night.
Glamping in the Masai Mara is the perfect blend of safari charm and modern convenience!
WHY GLAMPING
Why Go Glamping In The Masai Mara?
When planning a trip to Kenya, you’ll find a variety of options ranging from luxury lodges to traditional hotels. But glamping in the Masai Mara offers something truly special – it’s an immersive experience that brings you closer to nature without sacrificing comfort.
- Wake up in the heart of the action. Mara Trails Camp is situated in a prime wildlife area near a river. It’s not uncommon to see hippos, elephants, or waterbuck nearby!
- Participate in sustainable tourism. We’re situated inside the wildlife reserve and have designed our camp to have minimal impact on our environment.
- Enjoy a more authentic safari. Mara Trails is an exclusive camp offering just 12 classic safari-style tents. It’s a quieter, more personal safari experience.
Ultimately, a visit to the Masai Mara isn’t just about where you stay, it’s how you experience the magic of the Mara.
ABOUT YOUR ACCOMMODATION
Masai Mara Glamping FAQs
Over the years, we have hosted guests who wondered what exactly it was like staying in a tented safari camp. We’re happy to answer your questions and set your mind at ease. Over the years, hundreds of guests have enjoyed glamping in the Masai Mara with us and we know you will, too!
Is Glamping In The Masai Mara Actually Safe?
Yes! Mara Trails Camp is located in a riverine forest near the banks of the Talek River. The camp is unfenced to allow wildlife to pass through naturally since this is their territory and we are the guests. Throughout the day, experienced staff are on hand to ensure guest comfort and safety. At night, the camp is guarded by Maasai askari who keep watch for wildlife. Escorts are provided to ensure your safety as you walk from the dining tent to your own room.
Will I Still Have Modern Comforts & Amenities?
Yes! Our tented safari camp is immersed in nature but we still offer all the modern comforts you’d expect from a hotel room. Our camp is powered by solar panels with generators for backup on cloudy days. You can turn on lights, charge your phone and camera, and access Wi-Fi as needed, although internet speeds are slow in this nature preserve.
Your tent features comfortable beds, mattresses, and linens, as well as a private bathroom with a flushing toilet, sink, and tiled shower with hot water. Conservation is important in Kenya, and guests have the option to participate in sustainability measures while glamping in the Masai Mara. We invite you to choose to re-use your towels rather than having them changed each day.
What Kind Of Food Is Served At The Safari Camp?
Mara Trails Camp is an all-inclusive safari camp. When you stay with us, you’ll enjoy three chef-prepared meals each day. We believe that glamping in the Masai Mara can be done with style! Breakfast is typically served in the field, as morning game drives often begin around 6:30 am.
Depending on whether you’re going for an all-day game drive or a morning & evening game drive, lunch can be served in the field or in the camp. Dinner is served in the camp in our dining tent, featuring a global fusion of meals with flavours from around the world.
Is Glamping Sustainable And Eco-Friendly?
Yes! Mara Trails Camp was designed from the ground up to be conscious of our impact on the environment. We’ve tucked each tent into its own space in the riverine forest to avoid cutting down trees when possible.
The camp is powered by solar panels fueled by the beautiful Kenyan sun, although we do rely on backup generators during cloudy weather. Our water is heated with a wood-fueled boiler and we use responsible waste practices to reduce overall waste as well as single use plastics.
Will I See Wildlife In The Camp During My Stay?
Yes! Mara Trails Camp is tucked away in a riverine forest that’s close to the Talek River. Each day, you’ll hear a myriad of beautiful birds and may spot small native wildlife such as monkeys. It’s not uncommon to see larger species as well – we can often hear hippos from the camp and may see giraffes, elephants, or varieties of antelope or gazelle visible from the camp. Glamping in the Masai Mara provides a much more immersive experience compared to staying in a hotel.
