Getting To Mara Trails
Your journey to the incredible Masai Mara National Reserve starts here. As soon as you arrive in Nairobi, our driver will collect you from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and take you to your hotel to recharge before your adventure. Choose between a leisurely road trip over the incredible Rift Valley of about 6 hours or a swift flight to the reserve. Encounter the beauty of Kenya whether you’re on the ground or in the air. From the time you land in Nairobi to the time you arrive at Mara Trails Camp, every stage of your journey will be bursting with new experiences and excitement.

Arrive In Kenya
Adventure begins the moment you touch down in Nairobi, Kenya. International flights arriving at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport typically arrive after 9 pm. Our driver will meet you at arrivals and whisk you off to your hotel. Prepare for the excitement ahead by spending your first night relaxing in a Nairobi.
Guests can pre-book a hotel of their choice, or request booking assistance from Mara Trails Camp when planning the trip. We ensure you are in safe hands from the minute we pick you up at the airport to the minute we drop you off after your safari.
THE SCENIC ROUTE
Travel By Road
See Kenya up close with a road trip from Nairobi to Mara Trails Camp. Our driver will pick you up from JKIA or from your hotel for the 6 hour journey. Along the way, you’ll see the Great Rift Valley Escarpment and have the opportunity to buy curios and see wildlife. As we near our destination, you’ll pass through Maasai lands, view colourful markets, and witness the Maasai people and their livestock.
Note: We can also arrange taxi vehicles to drive you to the camp.
Choose this option if:
- You have multiple guests and wish to select the least expensive option
- You have heavy luggage that exceeds 20 kg per person, or large quantities of luggage
SAVE TRAVEL TIME
Travel By Air
Arrive in the Masai Mara as soon as possible with a domestic flight from Nairobi to the Olkiombo airstrip. In just 45 minutes, you’ll soar above the clouds and see breathtaking aerial views of Nairobi National Park, the Maasai lands, and the Rift Valley.
After arrival at the airstrip, our driver will transport you to Mara Trails Camp. You’ll have the opportunity to catch some early sightings of the wildlife you came to observe. Make sure your cameras are at hand!
Note: each flight restricts baggage to 15 kg or less. Every kilogram above this is charged $8 USD per kg.
Choose this option if:
- Your preference is to avoid the long journey
- Your luggage is minimal and under 15 kg
For guests with plenty of luggage, a third solution is available. Fly to the Olkiombo airstrip while we ensure your belongings reach the camp safely by road at an additional cost. This option allows you to enjoy the convenience of air travel without worrying about weight restrictions. Whichever path you choose, your journey to promises to be an exhilarating adventure.
